FIRE MISTING SYSTEMS
Full-Service Solution

Overview
Our fire suppression systems offer a cost effective, environmentally friendly and less damaging way of protecting both domestic & residential properties from fire using the very latest innovative design.
Overview of Misting Systems
A water-based fire suppression misting system is one that that uses very fine water sprays (i.e. water mist). This mist is created by the high pressure that water is discharged at, combined with the unique designed nozzle that the water is discharged through. The small water droplets, 50-150 microns, allow the water mist to control, suppress and extinguish fires by displacing the oxygen which feeds the fire and extinguishing the radiant heat, meaning the fire cannot breathe and therefore can no longer spread or continue.
These systems are cost-effective, environmentally friendly and less damaging alternative to traditional fire sprinklers.

Our Systems
We use a pump-based system comprising a pump unit, internal control system, water supply connection, monitoring and alarm feedback system with closed head discharge nozzles.
Our Systems
The system operation is based on activation of a closed frangible bulb type nozzle, which are activated once the temperature rating of the nozzle bulb has been exceeded.
The system is designed as a wet pipe system and so the pipe is normally charged with water at standard mains pressure. In the event of a nozzle operating, the flow is monitored, and after a short delay, the pump started. Water is discharged as mist through the open nozzle.
More nozzles may operate over time dependant on the fire size and location, until the maximum capacity of the system is reached.

Sprinkler vs Misting
Sprinkler systems are effective in extinguishing fires, but use a large amount of water per min on activation which can lead to severe water damage. Misting systems use considerably less, meaning less damage to your home in the event of an activation.
Sprinkler vs WaterMist
From an aesthetic point of view, misting nozzles are small and discrete and at just 0.3cm thick, fit snuggly into a ceiling. They can also be supplied in many colours to complement the colour scheme of a room. Sprinkler nozzles are much larger and not so pleasing on the eye and could disrupt a ceilings design.
As far as housing the units is concerned, fire misting systems take up less space in the home thanks to their compact pump unit which can easily be stored in a kitchen cupboard out of sight. Sprinkler systems may require a 1000 litre storage tank plus a booster set to ensure correct flow rates. These items cannot be easily hidden from view therefore they have to be located in a dedicated area or space which is not always practical or suitable for certain types of homes where space is minimal.

Misting Systems Explained
Misting systems cool both flames and surrounding gases by evaporating them. They displace the oxygen which feeds the fire, and extinguishes the radiant heat stopping the fire from breathing.

Fire Testing & Approvals
It is imperative that the performance of any misting system you are looking to install is verified and certified by a recognised and accredited third party.
Fire Protection Association
FireMisting install The Watermist system which has achieved British Standard BS8458:2015 compliancy. This British Standard covers design, installation, water supplies, maintenance and testing of residential and domestic water mist fire suppression systems installed to reduce the risk to life.
Watermist system testing was performed at the Fire Protection Association in November 2018 for Misting Solutions Ltd, who are the designers of the SmartMist system.

Maintenance
Ongoing annual maintenance of your fire misting system is vital to ensure the system stays healthy and for your continued peace of mind. We can help you set up an annual plan so that servicing is one less thing to worry about.
Maintenance of your Misting System
As a customer, we can provide all the necessary ongoing services and maintenance of your misting system. Our misting systems already have a self-test facility installed, so will only require a service once a year. The system will self test itself around every 28 days. Here, the system will self-test using the internal controller and water recirculation system. This is completely normal, so don’t panic if your pump briefly starts making noises. This test ensures that the pump hasn’t, and is less likely, to cease when it is sat idle. Don’t worry, this will not cause any water to discharge from the installed nozzles.
